Введение

Когда сегодня говорят про искусственный интеллект, почти всегда имеют в виду GPT-модели. Кажется, что весь рынок инноваций свёлся к чатам с нейросетями. Но это искажение. Пока внимание сосредоточено на OpenAI, рядом существует компания, которая делает не менее масштабную революцию, но в другой плоскости.

Niantic — та самая студия, подарившая миру Pokémon Go. Для многих это всего лишь игра с покемонами в дополненной реальности. Но на самом деле Niantic годами выстраивает совершенно другой бизнес: она превращает миллионы игроков в добровольных картографов, которые собирают уникальные данные о мире. И эти данные становятся основой для геопространственных ИИ-моделей — того самого «пространственного интеллекта», который завтра будет управлять роботами, строить 3D-карты городов и задавать новые стандарты AR.

Мы решили написать о Niantic, потому что видим здесь смещённый фокус внимания: хайп вокруг GPT-чатов затмевает другие направления, хотя именно такие проекты, как Niantic, незаметно создают инфраструктуру будущего. На наших глазах формируется новая операционная система для физической реальности — и в этой статье мы хотим показать, как именно это происходит.

Бизнес-модель Niantic: игры, данные и партнёрства

Niantic изначально зарабатывала на мобильных играх: основной доход приносили внутриигровые покупки в Pokémon Go (покупка игровых предметов и бонусов). С 2016-го года Pokémon Go суммарно принёс около $8 млрд выручки, только в 2024 году игра заработала порядка $770 млн.

Однако весной 2025 года компания продала своё игровое подразделение (включая Pokémon Go) за $3,5 млрд и сменила название на Niantic Spatial, объявив о фокусе на технологиях ИИ и пространственных данных. Теперь компания будет разрабатывать AI-карты для корпоративных клиентов – например, для навигации роботов и работы AR-очков, опираясь на данные, собранные игрой Pokémon Go и её «прародителем» Ingress.

Бизнес-модель Niantic всегда включала монетизацию данных о локациях. Помимо прямых продаж внутри приложений, компания сотрудничала с крупными брендами. Например, в Pokémon Go с самого запуска внедрялись спонсируемые локации: сети ресторанов (McDonald’s, Starbucks и др.) и операторы связи заключали сделки, чтобы их точки превращались в игровые объекты – покестопы и арены для боёв.

Бизнес оплачивал каждый визит игрока, приводимого игрой (по модели “cost per visit” до ~$0.50 за уникального игрока). Так Niantic получила новый рекламный формат – приток физического трафика в партнёрские заведения, что приносило доход помимо покупок игроков.

Со временем фирма расширила способы монетизации и партнёрства. Она лицензирует популярные бренды для новых игр: вместе с Nintendo выпущена шагомер-игра Pikmin Bloom, с Warner Bros. – Harry Potter: Wizards Unite (сейчас закрыта), с Capcom – Monster Hunter Now. Хотя не все проекты повторили успех Pokémon Go, партнёрства с гигантами индустрии обеспечили доступ к фанатским аудиториям и новым данным.

Также у компании есть своя AR-платформа Lightship, к которой компания начала открывать доступ внешним разработчикам в 2021–2022 годах. Lightship включает систему визуального позиционирования (VPS) и карту мира с точностью позиционирования до сантиметра.

Кроме того, Niantic приобрела стартап 8th Wall – лидера в Web-AR – и экспериментирует с AR-рекламой. В 2023 году компания анонсировала формат Rewarded AR ads – “вознаграждаемой AR-рекламы”. По замыслу, игрок, согласившись, взаимодействует через камеру с брендированным контентом, наложенным на окружающий мир (например, виртуальный товар или персонаж бренда), и за это получает внутриигровой бонус.

Такой нативный для AR рекламный опыт предлагается крупным брендам как новый способ вовлечения аудитории. Благодаря покупке 8th Wall, компания может проводить подобные акции не только в своих играх, но и через веб-браузер – то есть не ограничиваясь установкой приложений.

Технологии Niantic: AR, компьютерное зрение и глобальная 3D-карта

В основе системы лежит платформа Niantic Real World Platform – серверно-клиентская архитектура, обрабатывающая в реальном времени местоположение сотен миллионов игроков. Серверная инфраструктура (ранее на базе Google Cloud) обеспечивает масштаб: во время запуска Pokémon Go нагрузка достигала десятков миллионов активных пользователей в день.

Клиентская часть каждой игры написана с использованием движка Unity, что облегчает кроссплатформенную разработку (Android/iOS). Niantic создала собственный SDK (Lightship ARDK) над Unity AR Foundation, расширяя его возможности. Например, Lightship добавляет динамическое мезонирование сцены (Meshing) даже на телефонах без LiDAR: в реальном времени строится сеточная модель окружающих поверхностей для реалистичного размещения объектов (с учётом физики, освещения и т.п.).

Чтобы виртуальные объекты уверенно “чувствовали” себя в реальном мире, компания активно применяет SLAM (одновременная локализация и картирование) и связанные методы. Камера смартфона используется не только для вывода картинки, но и для анализа окружения.

Система визуального позиционирования (Lightship VPS) сопоставляет изображение с камеры с эталонной 3D-картой, определяя точное положение и ориентацию телефона. Это позволяет добиться позиционирования с точностью до нескольких сантиметров – критично для стабильного размещения AR-объектов.

Откуда такая точность

Чтобы реализовать столь точную привязку AR-контента, требуется подробная 3D-карта мира. Niantic фактически создала альтернативу Google Street View, но собранную пешими игроками. По словам самой компании, её данные “уникальны, потому что получены с точки зрения пешехода и охватывают места, недоступные для машин”.

Если Google и другие карты полагаются на камеры, закреплённые на автомобилях, то Niantic задействовала миллионы людей с телефонами. Они прошли (буквально) там, куда не доехали машины с камерами: дворы, парки, тропинки, небольшие улочки.

Разработчики утверждают, что благодаря игрокам создали 3D-карты городов, которые включают не только геометрию объектов, но и их семантические классы – то есть понимают, где на изображении небо, где земля, а где деревья.

Прорывом стало применение нейросетевых методов для создания карт. Если первые карты Niantic строила классическим методом Structure from Motion (вычисляя облака 3D-точек по множеству перекрывающихся фото), то теперь компания перешла к обучению нейронных карт (Neural Maps).

Главный научный сотрудник компании Виктор Присакариу ещё в 2022 году рассказывал, что на данных, загруженных пользователями Ingress и Pokémon Go, Niantic обучила модели, способные “сжимать” тысячи фотографий местности в компактное цифровое представление.

По сути, для каждой локации создаётся свой небольшой ИИ, запоминающий, как это место выглядит с разных ракурсов. На сегодняшний день натренировано более 50 миллионов нейросетей, каждая “специализируется” на определённой точке или окрестностях. Совокупно эти сети содержат свыше 150 триллионов параметров – астрономическая цифра, сопоставимая с самыми крупными языковыми моделями.

Пока эти нейросети работают как независимые “локальные” эксперты по своим местам, но следующая цель – объединить их знания в единую Большую геопространственную модель (Large Geospatial Model, LGM). LGM – это глобальный ИИ, способный понимать любую физическую локацию, даже если конкретно её сканов мало, за счёт обобщения опыта похожих мест.

Например, в блоге Niantic приводят пример: локальная модель парка видела только фасад стоящей там церкви, и не сможет опознать её, если пользователь вдруг оказался за церковью. Но глобальная модель знает тысячи церквей по всему миру и умеет распознавать общие черты – она “додумает”, что с обратной стороны тоже церковь, и поймёт, где вы находитесь. Такой распределённый интеллект – следующий фронтир компании в области AI-картографии.

Механизмы сбора данных: как игроки “кормят” систему

Как же Niantic удалось собрать такой объём пользовательских данных? Разработчики гениально используют геймификацию и социальные механики, превращая скучный процесс картографирования в развлечение для миллионов. Игровой дизайн с самого начала заточен на максимальный охват пространства и стимулы к исследованию новых мест.

Во-первых, каждый игрок делится своим местоположением постоянно, просто играя. Pokémon Go, Ingress, Pikmin Bloom – все эти игры основаны на геолокации. Приложение запрашивает GPS-координаты и движение, чтобы соответствующе реагировать: спавнить покемонов вокруг, засчитывать шаги или дальность перемещения.

Так, компания получает непрерывный поток данных о перемещениях игроков: где, когда и как долго и по каким маршрутам они ходят. Совокупно пользователи игр прошли астрономическую дистанцию – 30 млрд миль (48 млрд км) к 2024 году! Каждый такой “тропический” маршрут – ценная информация о проходимости дорог, тропинок, популярности локаций.

Во-вторых, Niantic вовлекла игроков в создание базы POI – точек интереса (интересных мест). Ещё задолго до Pokémon Go, в игре Ingress игроки сами предлагали порталы – значимые объекты в городе, которые служили “точками захвата” в игровом сюжете. Требовалось сделать фото объекта, включить геотеги – по сути, пользователи краудсорсили карту достопримечательностей. Тысячи добровольцев наполнили мир Ingress памятниками, скульптурами, муралами, парками, храмами и т.д. – такой базы не было даже у Google.

Когда вышел Pokémon Go, Niantic воспользовалась этими данными: покестопы и тренировочные залы (Gyms) были привязаны к тем самым порталам Ingress. Позже компания запустила единую систему Wayfarer, где опытные игроки обеих игр могли предлагать новые точки и совместно их модерировать. В результате к 2022 году геймеры отметили на карте более 17 миллионов точек интересных мест и загрузили их фото/сканы.

Кроме статических фотографий, Niantic со временем начала просить игроков отсканировать объекты в 3D. В Pokémon Go появились полевые исследования с пометкой “AR Mapping”: при посещении некоторых покестопов игра выдавала задание – отсканировать покестоп.

Игроку нужно активировать камеру и медленно обойти вокруг достопримечательности (статуи, фонтана и пр.) примерно 20-30 секунд. За успешный скан полагалась награда – внутриигровые предметы или опыт. Аналогичные задания появились и в Ingress (сканирование порталов).

По сути, Niantic ввела элемент дополненной реальности как обязательную миссию: чтобы получить бонус, игрок должен “покормить” систему свежими визуальными данными о точке.В сумме уже накоплены десятки миллионов 3D-сканов местности. Ни одна другая организация не собирала 3D-данные в таких масштабах через игровое приложение.

Niantic размещала точки интереса так, чтобы “выманивать” людей с телефонами в места, где нет данных у Google – например, дворы или сельские районы. Игрок, стремящийся поймать редкого покемона или выполнить квест, отправлялся в тот самый закоулок – и невольно собирал данные там, где ранее не ступала нога картографа.

Данные для обучения ИИ: от 3D-карт до распознавания объектов

Главная цель Niantic – создать цифровой аналог реального мира, который понимает физическое пространство не хуже человека. По аналогии с языковыми моделями (LLM), генерирующими текст, компания продвигает идею большой геопространственной модели (Large Geospatial Model), генерирующей и понимающей пространство.

Практическое использование этих данных уже прослеживается в текущих технологиях. Прежде всего, это 3D-карты с привязкой к координатам, на которых основывается Visual Positioning System. Игроки напрямую ощущают результат, когда видят стабильные AR-объекты или когда игра точно определяет, к какому покестопу вы подошли, даже если GPS неточен.

За доли секунды после того, как вы наводите камеру на окружение, алгоритмы сравнивают то, что “видит” телефон, с миллионами сохранённых эталонных образов из базы. Если сходство найдено, система мгновенно вычисляет ваше местонахождение с точностью до метра или лучше. Без машинного обучения такое сравнение заняло бы намного больше времени; нейросети же обеспечивают нужную скорость и точность.

Накопленные панорамы и 3D-модели улиц позволяют рендерить правильные тени и отражения на виртуальных объектах (учитывая расположение солнца и окружения). Семантические метки (трава, дорога, небо и пр.), полученные при обучении на множествах отмеченных снимков, используются в Lightship ARDK – для физически корректного взаимодействия объектов с поверхностями.

В демо Niantic показывали, как виртуальный покебол скачет по реальному тротуару и отскакивает от бордюра – это достигается благодаря тому, что система “понимает”, где твёрдая поверхность, а где стена.

Геопространственные данные также могут улучшить навигационные и поисковые сервисы. Игра Pokémon Go сама по себе стала полигоном для изучения поведения пешеходов. Анализ анонимизированных треков позволил выявлять популярные маршруты по паркам, короткие пути, которыми срезают углы, и т.д. – по сути, оптимальные пешеходные дорожки между точками. Если традиционные навигаторы прокладывают путь по дорогам (для машин), то Niantic благодаря игрокам знает, как ходят люди: где есть народная тропа, где лестница, проход через двор и пр.

В своих анонсах компания указывает, что её технологии найдут применение в логистике, пространственном планировании и робототехнике – представляя, например, курьера-робота, который ориентируется по “человеческой” карте тротуаров, собранной Pokémon Go.

Объединение визуальных геомоделей с большими языковыми моделями (LLM) открывает путь к новому классу приложений. Представьте, вы идёте по улице в AR-очках, а ИИ знает, что за здания вокруг, где ближайшая аптека, насколько безопасен маршрут, и при этом может поддержать беседу или рассказать историю места.

Насколько этично изначально собирать данные через игру, не афишируя их последующее использование для ИИ? Когда Niantic в ноябре 2024 года объявила о создании AI-модели на основе сканов игроков, часть сообщества отреагировала негативно. В соцсетях некоторые игроки написали, что “чувствуют себя обманутыми”, так как их явно не информировали, что все эти годы сканы шли на обучение коммерческого ИИ.

Действительно, в пользовательском соглашении Pokémon Go нигде прямо не упоминалось, что данные могут быть использованы для тренировки нейросетей. В итоге компания признала, что на момент написания условий про ИИ не думали (по словам технического директора Брайана Макклендона, “на тот момент модели не находились в разработке”).

С другой стороны, часть аудитории реагировала спокойно или даже позитивно. В ветке Reddit, посвящённой новости о “большой геомодели”, многие писали, что “это не было секретом”. Опытные игроки давно подозревали, что “бизнес-модель Niantic не вращается вокруг поддержки игроков”, а ориентирована на данные. Поэтому, мол, неудивительно, что сканы идут на ИИ.

Niantic старается соблюсти баланс: по заверениям компании, AR-сканирование всегда добровольно (ни одна игра не заставляет включать камеру без согласия). Можно играть в Pokémon Go в упрощённом режиме без AR, и тогда вы просто видите покемона на условной травке. Правда, за AR-сканы дают бонусы – и трудно устоять, особенно когда игра настойчиво предлагает “выполнить простое задание”.

Что касается данных о местоположении, то тут согласие фактически имплицитное: невозможно играть в гео-игру, не раскрыв GPS. Большинство игроков с этим мирятся – в конце концов, те же Google Maps и так знают, где мы. Однако разница в том, что игры компании не просто фиксируют, где вы были, а стимулируют побывать там, где вы ещё не были.

Это открывает неожиданные этические ракурсы. Например, в начале Pokémon Go случались истории, когда люди заходили на частную территорию или в опасные места ради покемонов – были случаи травм и даже огнестрельных инцидентов (в США пара грабителей использовали приманку в игре, чтобы заманивать жертв в безлюдные места). Niantic пришлось оперативно добавлять предупреждения (“не заходите на частную собственность”, “смотрите по сторонам” и т.д.), а также убирать или перемещать проблемные покестопы.

С точки зрения общества, появление толп игроков в парках было скорее позитивным явлением (игра вытянула многие тысячи людей на улицу, способствовала общению офлайн), но для отдельных локаций – напротив, вылилось в перегрузку. Были жалобы, что покестоп у маленькой достопримечательности привёл к непрерывному потоку людей и мусора вокруг.

В 2016 году пара из Мичигана подала коллективный иск против Niantic, Nintendo и Pokémon Company, утверждая, что наличие PokéStop/Gym возле их дома превратило жизнь в «кошмар» — с нарушением приватности, мусором и захламлёнными подъездами. Этот случай был подробно освещён в журнале Time и других СМИ.

Вывод

Pokémon GO начинался как развлечение с покемонами в парке, а обернулся в глобальный проект по оцифровке улиц, площадей и фасадов. На этих данных уже строятся новые сервисы — от навигации до систем дополненной реальности, которые со временем могут превратиться в полноценную операционную систему для реального мира.

Пока внимание приковано к чат-ботам и генеративным нейросетям, такие невидимые инфраструктурные проекты тихо формируют среду, в которой мы будем жить завтра. И если сегодня это выглядит как игра, то завтра именно эти цифровые карты и модели станут фундаментом для экономики дополненной реальности — от медицины до городской навигации и развлечений.
