Сегодня мы оказались в похожей ситуации. В мире появился новый источник силы – искусственный интеллект. И, как и раньше, не совсем понятно, как использовать эту силу. Где они, все эти продукты и сервисы на базе ИИ, которые делают нашу жизнь и работу значительно проще и приятнее?

Для создания этих продуктов и услуг на базе ИИ мы создали новую научно-исследовательскую лабораторию под названием Answer.AI. Она займётся фундаментальными исследованиями, необходимыми для приручения ИИ, и разработками, необходимыми для его практического применения.

Итерационный подход к освоению потенциала ИИ

Использование ИИ требует не только низкоуровневых компьютерных наук и математических исследований, но и глубоких размышлений о том, какие приложения могут воспользоваться преимуществами этой новой возможности на практике. Буква D в слове R&D имеет решающее значение, так как только рассматривая разработку практичных приложений, можно определить правильные направления исследований.

Именно поэтому Answer.AI построен на работе экспертов в области исследований и разработок. Я попросил Эрика высказать свои мысли об уникальном подходе Answer.AI к исследованиям и разработкам, и он резюмировал лучше, чем это мог бы сделать я, поэтому я просто его процитирую:

«Люди думают, что порядок (работы в R&D) таков: «исследование → разработка», и что, следовательно, научно-исследовательская лаборатория сперва выполняет исследования, а затем приступает к разработке. Наша исследовательская платформа

Такие компании, как OpenAI и Anthropic, работают над созданием искусственного интеллекта общего назначения (AGI). И им удалось добиться потрясающих результатов – сейчас мы находимся на том этапе развития, когда некоторые эксперты в этой области утверждают, что «Искусственный интеллект общего назначения уже здесь».

В Answer.AI мы не работаем над созданием AGI. Вместо этого мы заинтересованы в эффективном использовании уже существующих моделей. Наличие огромных команд специалистов создаёт большое количество организационных трений и сложностей. Но с помощью современных инструментов ИИ я убедился, что один специалист широкого профиля, хорошо разбирающийся в основах, может создавать эффективные решения сложных задач, используя незнакомые языки, инструменты и библиотеки (более того, я сам это делал много раз!) Я думаю, люди будут очень удивлены, узнав, чего может достичь небольшая команда находчивых, креативных и открытых людей.

От fast.ai к Answer.AI

Мы с Рейчел Томас (Rachel Thomas) поняли более семи лет назад, что глубокое обучение (deep learning) и нейронные сети (neural networks) становятся одной из самых важных технологий в истории, но они также были на пути к тому, чтобы их контролировала и понимала только крошечная эксклюзивная часть общества. Мы обеспокоились возможной централизацией и контролем нечто критически важного, что основали fast.ai с миссией сделать ИИ более доступным.

Мы хотим исследовать новые способы создания ИИ-продуктов, которые смогут обслуживать клиентов так, как не могут их обслуживать существующие подходы.

Это позволит нам генерировать доход, который мы сможем использовать для расширения новых и больших возможностей, а также для снижения затрат за счёт повышения эффективности, создавая цикл положительной обратной связи (positive feedback loop), чтобы ИИ создавал всё больше и больше ценности. Мы будем тратить всё своё время на то, чтобы увеличить объём рынка, а не на то, чтобы увеличить нашу долю в нём. Рва нет (прим.: эта фраза используется бизнесменами метафорически для описания преимуществ, которыми они обладают, и которые мешают другим людям делать то же самое, либо входить в их бизнес-нишу и конкурировать с ними в ней), и нас это даже не волнует! В этом-то и заключается суть нашей ключевой идеи – создание прибыльной компании в долгосрочной перспективе и положительное влияние на общество в целом могут быть полностью совпадающими целями.

Если вы дочитали до этого места, то я скажу вам чистую правду: на самом деле мы и сами не знаем, что мы делаем. Искусственный интеллект – это огромная и сложная область, и я очень скептически отношусь к тем, кто утверждает, что во всём разобрался. Действительно, Фарадей чувствовал то же самое в отношении электричества. Более того, он даже не был уверен в том, что оно будет представлять какую-либо пользу:

«Сейчас я снова занят электромагнетизмом, и мне кажется, что я ухватился за хорошую вещь, но не могу сказать (точно). Возможно, после всех моих трудов я, наконец, выдерну сорняк, а не рыбу.»

Но быть неуверенным – это нормально. Мы с Эриком считаем, что лучший способ разработать ценные вещи на базе современных моделей ИИ – это попробовать многое; понять, что из них работает, а затем постепенно совершенствовать их понемногу.

Как сказал Фарадей: «Человек, абсолютно уверенный у своей правоте, почти наверняка ошибается». Answer.AI – это научно-исследовательская лаборатория для людей, которые не уверены в своей правоте, но они будут крайне усердно работать, чтобы в итоге сделать всё правильно.

На самом деле это не новый вид научно-исследовательской лаборатории. Томас Эдисон уже делал это раньше, почти 150 лет назад. Так что, думаю, лучше сказать, что это новая R&D лаборатория старого типа.
