[Перевод] Хайп вокруг ИИ: реальное состояние дел и будущее
Меня зовут Ричард Кэмпбелл. Я из Ванкувера из канадской провинции Британская Колумбия. В Копенгагене я не впервые и, как уже говорил, выступал на множестве конференций NDC1.
Этот доклад сложился сам собой, потому что в последнее время вокруг происходящего с искусственным интеллектом возникла неразбериха. Начать надо с этого ужасного названия. Термин старый, ещё из 1950-х. Придумала его группа учёных, пытавшихся выбить финансирование у американских военных, что, кстати, у них получилось.
Итак, это были пятидесятые, ещё до настоящих электронных компьютеров на интегральных микросхемах и прочих радостей жизни. Компьютеры тогда были либо электромеханическими, либо ламповыми. Но уже тогда возникло убеждение, что можно проводить вычисления сложные настолько, чтобы была польза для человека. Учёным удалось написать программное обеспечение для снабжения и организации американских вооружённых сил. Задачу свою оно выполнило: армия США до сих пор остаётся одной из самых эффективных сил в мире по способности проецировать военную мощь в любой точке планеты. Но поток финансирования на разработку иссяк, и впервые наступило то, что позднее прозовут зимой искусственного интеллекта2.
Таких циклов с зимами за прошедшие годы было несколько. Всякий раз связаны они были с разными технологиями. Вновь и вновь учёные приманивали деньги на красивую терминологию.
В 1960-х Джозеф Вейценбаум написал для мейнфрейма IBM 7094 программу ELIZA. Вейценбаум прозвал своё творение роджерианским психотерапевтом, что было, мягко говоря, преувеличением. Учёный хотел показать, насколько хорошо даже примитивная программа может генерировать языковые ответы, способные вызывать эмоциональную реакцию. Суть психотерапии заключалась в том, что вы могли, например, пожаловаться, какой отвратительный у вас был обед, а программа просила: «Итак, расскажите, насколько плох был ваш обед».
Вейценбаум хотел лишь продемонстрировать абсурдность происходящего, показать, насколько люди восприимчивы к таким трюкам. А потом он обнаружил, что его секретарша не могла оторваться от Элизы; выяснилось, что люди часами сидят с программой. Одного лишь ощущения, будто кто-то вас слушает, оказалось достаточно3.
К подобному мы чрезвычайно восприимчивы, человеческий мозг буквально устроен так, чтобы везде видеть интеллект. Когда-то из этого получалось извлекать эволюционное преимущество: в первобытном дотехнологическом обществе где-нибудь в африканской саванне умение приписывать добыче разум и предугадывать её поведение помогало в охоте.
Есть и другая человеческая особенность — парейдолия, способность мгновенно видеть лица. Давайте перенесёмся в африканскую саванну. Если вы первым заметили морду льва, то первым и побежали. Значит, съели других, а вы выжили и оставили потомство, отчего признак закрепился в популяции. Лица повсюду мы видим оттого, что от ложного распознавания вреда почти нет, а польза когда-то была огромной. Задумайтесь, сколько современных продуктов спроектированы так, чтобы в них угадывались лица. Именно так для нас выглядят автомобили: решётка радиатора, фары и прочие элементы на передней части кузова кажутся лицом.
Некоторые в корыстных целях эксплуатируют эту человеческую слабость и создают вокруг своих продуктов ореол разумности, которой в них нет.
Широкая общественность узнала термин «искусственный интеллект» из кино, в массовое сознание ИИ в 1968 внедрил Стэнли Кубрик в «Космической одиссее 2001 года». Один из героев картины — компьютер по имени HAL 9000. Этот компьютер пытается всех убить, ровно как искусственный интеллект почти в любом другом фантастическом фильме массовой культуры. Этот сюжет любят повторять, примером тому могут служить «Терминатор» в 1980-х и Альтрон в 2010-х. В последние годы мои студенты на просьбу назвать ИИ вспоминают Д.Ж.А.Р.В.И.С.
Научная фантастика настолько заразила общественное сознание, что люди уверены: они знают, что такое ИИ, потому что видели его в кино. Это проблема, поскольку нас ввели в заблуждение. После десятилетий неправильного употребления термина мы мучаемся с последствиями.
В зависимости от того, как считать, сейчас у нас четвёртая или пятая волна технологий, продаваемых под видом искусственного интеллекта. Текущую волну принято называть генеративным ИИ. Отцов у него много, а ключевой фигурой стал Джеффри Хинтон — британский учёный и профессор, работавший в Канаде в Университете Торонто. В 1970-х Хинтон защитил докторскую по искусственному интеллекту и много занимался нейронными сетями, в 80-х входил в группу, создавшую софт для распознавания рукописного текста, к примеру, адресов на конвертах и текста на расчётных чеках.

Те ранние нейросети выдавали неплохой результат, но в очень ограниченной области: эффективность получалась для определённых видов рукописного текста, подчинявшегося конкретным правилам. Хинтон предлагал строить более глубокие нейросети. Он выступил соавтором статьи про обратное распространение ошибки (doi:10.1038/323533a0), но в сущности её вывод сводился к следующему: нужны дальнейшие исследования и гораздо больше вычислительных ресурсов, чтобы подход был осуществим на практике.
Технология отправилась на полку и пролежала там до 2010-х, когда аспиранты Хинтона достали наработки, стряхнули с них пыль и вооружились ими для участия в соревновании ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge 2012.
В том конкурсе ImageNet использовались 1,2 миллиона размеченных изображений, по большей части это были украденные из социальных сетей картинки. К каждому изображению прикладывалось описание того, что на нём находится. Задача ставилась простая: написать программу, способную по изображению составить такое описание.
Это сегодня мы считаем подобное чем-то само собой разумеющимся, у нас даже телефоны распознают картинки, но в начале 2010-х до этого было далеко. На ранних этапах конкурса лучший результат составлял примерно 30–40 % точности, выдавали его модели на основе деревьев решений и аналогичные методы. К 2012 году Хинтон и его аспиранты (сегодня это люди именитые — там был Илья Суцкевер, к примеру) перенесли свою старую задумку на современные видеоускорители и с первой попытки выдали на конкурсе 84,7 % точности по метрике top-5.
Уже через два года системы подкрались к 100 %. К 2015 году задачу, по сути, решили. Сегодня можно сфотографировать что угодно на телефон, а он расскажет, что попало в кадр. Технология стала привычной, распознаванием образов никого не удивишь.
К прорывам двигались и в США. Стэнфордский исследовательский институт (Stanford Research Institute, SRI) экспериментировал с преобразованием речи в текст. На тот момент системы распознавания речи существовали давно, но работали плохо: их приходилось обучать под конкретного пользователя, а 80–85 % точности считались чуть ли не пределом.
Исследователи SRI взяли колоссальный объём записанной речи и прогнали его через генеративную модель, пока не добились чрезвычайно эффективного распознавания, на уровне 99 %. Затем они превратили систему в приложение для iPhone и выложили его в App Store. Apple настолько впечатлилась, что купила приложение, добавила к названию букву «i» и получила Siri4.
AlexNet и Siri появились почти одновременно. В обоих случаях это был резкий скачок вперёд.
Тем временем на Восточном побережье США Google предложила Хинтону и его команде из Университета Торонто создать компанию для коммерциализации разработанной ими технологии распознавания изображений. Стоило им основать компанию, как Google тут же её купила — вот те на — и перевезла всех сотрудников в Менло-Парк, в Кремниевую долину, где они присоединились к отделу под названием Google Brain.
На тот момент Google уже несколько лет переманивала к себе лучших специалистов в новой области искусственного интеллекта, что другим игрокам в отрасли действовало на нервы. В те годы технологические миллиардеры выбешивали чуть меньше текущего, поэтому публика весьма благосклонно отнеслась к тому, что группа магнатов Кремниевой долины внезапно выразила обеспокоенность тайными разработками Google. Исследования ИИ нужно вести публично, сетовали эти критики.
Речь про Сэма Альтмана, Илона Маска, Питера Тиля и Рида Хоффмана. В 2015 году эти люди создали организацию OpenAI, задачей которой было официально прописано развитие искусственного интеллекта на благо всего человечества. На самом деле задачей было переманивание учёных из Google, чем OpenAI активно и занималась. К концу 2015 года в OpenAI перешёл Суцкевер, постепенно получилось забрать и остальных.
По идее, с финансированием у OpenAI всё было шоколадно, ведь за спиной у организации стояла целая группа миллиардеров. На деле денег не хватало. Илон Маск годами повторял, что вложил в OpenAI $100 млн. Как позднее выяснилось, в реальности он дал $16 млн и четыре электромобиля Tesla.
Тем не менее команда исследователей в OpenAI получалось отличная. Настолько отличная, что в 2018 году Илон даже попытался взять организацию под свой контроль. Из OpenAI Маска выставили, обиду на это, как вы можете наблюдать по судебным тяжбам, он носит по сей день.
На тот момент популярным направлением был машинный перевод, все грезили вавилонской рыбкой из «Автостопом по галактике». Илья Суцкевер занимался подобным ещё до основания OpenAI, и в 2014 году он вместе с коллегами из Google представил нейросетевую архитектуру sequence-to-sequence, способную преобразовывать предложение на одном языке в предложение на другом.
В 2017 году исследователи Google представили архитектуру Transformer, первоначально тоже как бы для машинного перевода. Архитектура оказалась быстрее в обучении и лучше подходила для обработки длинных зависимостей в тексте. В OpenAI её приспособили уже для более общей работы с языком. Текст разбивался на токены, то есть фрагменты, представленные числами; модель училась предсказывать, какие токены должны идти дальше. Обучив такую систему на огромном массиве текстов из Интернета, исследователи получили модель, которую затем можно было адаптировать под разные языковые задачи. Архитектуру назвали GPT — Generative Pre-trained Transformer, генеративный предобученный трансформер.
Тем временем совершенствовалось и распознавание изображений, его начали применять в медицине для анализа МРТ, рентгеновских снимков и других медицинских изображений. В 2016 году Джефф Хинтон заявил, что профессия радиолога фактически обречена и со временем эту работу возьмут на себя компьютеры.
На сегодняшний день американские регуляторы сертифицировали более тысячи моделей ИИ для распознавания медицинских изображений. Оказался ли прав Хинтон? Совершенно нет. Произошло обратное: спрос на радиологов взлетел на небес, потому что резко вырос спрос на медицинскую визуализацию.
Когда радиологу требовалось шесть недель на анализ снимка, врачи такое исследование просто не назначали, чтобы не ждать и поставить пациенту диагноз побыстрее. Когда появился новый софт, и скорость работы радиологов подскочила, спрос на медицинскую визуализацию стал расти быстрее, чем возможности его удовлетворять. Хотя скорость работы радиолога выросла, он не успевает за растущим потоком. Число радиологов тоже растёт, но обучение персонала требует времени.
И снова вышло так, что автоматизация повысила производительность, но вместо сокращения спроса лишь сильнее его разогнала. Результат оказался прямо противоположным прогнозу.
Тем временем OpenAI строила GPT. Первый публичный релиз (GPT-2) состоялся в 2019 году. Выпущенные модели были разных размеров: в самой маленькой было примерно 120 млн параметров, в самой большой — 1,5 млрд. Разные размеры были нужны, поскольку OpenAI настолько отчаянно не хватало денег, что компания не могла позволить себе запускать собственные модели. На небольших моделях проводили тесты, а самую крупную запускали только при уверенности, что это нужно.
Именно тогда OpenAI лозунг «Мы за открытость» сменила на более приземлённую риторику «Батюшки, да это инструмент мощный, и нас беспокоит безопасность, поэтому полную модель мы публиковать не будем, извините». Вот так растут организации.
Примерно тогда же на сцене появилась Microsoft. Кевин Скотт, бывший старший вице-президент LinkedIn по разработке и эксплуатации, много лет проработал в Кремниевой долине и имел контакты в OpenAI. После покупки LinkedIn он, разумеется, стал частью Microsoft, где вскоре стал техническим директором. В задачи Скотта входило искать, чем нагрузить Azure, поскольку Microsoft на тот момент сделала ставку на собственное облако и отчаянно нуждалась в клиентах.
В 2019 году Кевин Скотт написал Сатье Наделле письмо, которое сейчас стало довольно известным. Говорилось там что-то примерно такое: «У нас есть собственные эксперименты в области ИИ. Кажется, ребята из OpenAI нас обходят, а денег у них почти нет. Думаю, сто́ит в них вложиться и перенести все их вычисления в Azure. Ты ведь хотел, чтобы я нашёл клиентов для Azure?»
После лёгкой мотивационной обработки полностью некоммерческая организация OpenAI изменила свою структуру так, чтобы иметь возможность получать инвестиции. Microsoft вложила в OpenAI $1 млрд при условии, что последняя потратит деньги в Azure. Для Microsoft выходило очень выгодно: инвестируешь миллиард долларов и одновременно получаешь миллиард долларов продаж — превратил один миллиард в два.
OpenAI это, безусловно, помогло. Инвестиции позволили резко ускорить разработку. В разгар всей этой истории компания в 2020 году опубликовала статью под названием «Законы масштабирования нейронных языковых моделей» («Scaling Laws for Neural Language Models», arXiv:2001.08361). В ней авторы фактически пошли против значительной части того, как мы до этого понимали машинное обучение.
Лет десять или двадцать одной из базовых проблем машинного обучения оставалось переобучение, overfitting: если слишком усердно учить модель на обучающей выборке, она становится хороша только в работе с этими конкретными данными и больше ни с чем. Статья о законах масштабирования нейросетей, по сути, предлагала выход: увеличивайте модель, увеличивайте датасет, увеличивайте вычислительные мощности — и качество будет предсказуемо расти. Этот папир стал чем-то типа оправдания, которым гиперскейлеры с тех пор пользуются, объясняя свой подход к системам генеративного ИИ и больших языковых моделей.
Началась пандемия коронавируса. Дальнейшие события вспомнить получается с большим трудом, они проступают будто из пелены сна. 2020 год, миллиард долларов превратили в GPT-3. В 2021 году Microsoft вложила в компанию ещё $2 млрд.
У OpenAI появились деньги и Azure. В пресс-релизах Microsoft рассказывала о пятом по мощности суперкомпьютере в мире: 285 тысяч процессорных ядер и 10 тысяч GPU, которые специально для OpenAI несколько месяцев трудились над обучением модели. В крупнейшем варианте GPT-2 было 1,5 млрд параметров, размер са́мой большой версии GPT-3 был на два порядка выше и составлял 175 млрд параметров.
И всё равно модель получилась так себе. Человеческие языки сложны и нерегулярны, поэтому системе было трудно выдавать стабильно хорошие ответы.
А ещё в Кремниевой долине была GitHub. Там подумали: а что, если ограничить выборку? Что, если вместо человеческих языков использовать языки программирования? Результаты оказались получше, и первый продукт назвали Copilot. Название отличное: оно сразу напоминает, что главный пилот — это мясная прокладка между экраном и спинкой кресла, поэтому в случае чего виноватым останется тоже человек.
Такое хорошее название внутри Microsoft ни за что не родилось бы. Microsoft вообще не умеет придумывать хорошие названия, зато уже существующие у компании портить получается замечательно.
В итоге GitHub Copilot стал, по сути, первым настоящим продуктом в области БЯМ. Тем временем исследователи OpenAI в попытках улучшить языковую систему поняли, что кроме прогона на огромном корпусе текстов нужен ещё один этап обучения — с участием людей. Человек задавал вопрос, запрашивал какую-то информацию, а языковая модель выдавала три-четыре варианта ответа, после чего человек их расставлял от лучшего к худшему. На основе этих оценок строилась модель вознаграждения, которую в дальнейшем использовали для дообучения собственно языковой модели. Идея оказалась удачной.
Обычно OpenAI проводила подобное руками разметчиков данных из развивающихся стран с дешёвой рабочей силой по типу Индонезии, Филиппин и так далее. Но к осени 2022 года деньги опять кончились. Тогда родилась отличная мысль: зачем платить, если можно просто всё запубличить? Сделаем публичный интерфейс, где с системой будут экспериментировать все желающие, проанализируем полученные данные, а потом дообучим модель.
Так родился ChatGPT. Его задумали как эксперимент, как способ всего лишь заманить людей бесплатно выполнять работу по обучению модели, а не как серьёзное коммерческое решение. В OpenAI никто не ожидал, что к январю 2023 года, всего за 2 месяца, сервис наберёт 100 миллионов месячных пользователей. Ни один продукт до этого никогда не набирал первые 100 миллионов настолько стремительно, даже у TikTok на это ушло 9 месяцев.
Как мне рассказывали знакомые из Azure, Рождество с Новым годом в том году у них выдались так себе. Не так-то просто отмасштабироваться до 100 миллионов пользователей, нужно собрать и распределить по всему миру колоссальный объём ресурсов, пока пользователи валят огромными толпами.
Мне довелось пообщаться с одним из работавших над системой специалистов. Я спросил: «Почему, на ваш взгляд, всего за 2 месяца зарегистрировались 100 миллионов человек?» Он ответил: «Запуск в целом выпал на Рождество, и людям оказалось приятнее общаться с программой, чем со своими близкими».
Да ладно? Собаку заведите, зачем вы с программами общаетесь? Бред какой-то.
Кстати, обратили внимание, что я тщательно подбираю слова? Я сознательно борюсь с антропоморфизацией программного обеспечения и не говорю о нём как о человеке, поскольку человека там нет. И вам советую выработать ту же привычку: так вы наглядно продемонстрируете остальным, что перед ними просто программа. Да, умная, но программа. Из-за научной фантастики и неудачного названия мы об этом стали забывать.
Вернёмся к 100 миллионам пользователей. В 2023 году, впервые за 9 лет у руля Microsoft Сатья Наделла написал что-то по типу знаменитых стратегических писем Билла Гейтса5. В заявлении Наделлы рассказывалось: «Итак, вот API компании OpenAI, доступ к ним у нас есть. Каждая команда должна в своём продукте что-то сделать с помощью этих API. Вперёд, плодите копайлоты пачками». Так они и поступили. При этом во внешний мир попадали не все задумки с названием Copilot, но даже это казалось чересчур.
Давайте вспомним разработанный в эпоху бума доткомов цикл хайпа Gartner и поговорим о цикле, через который проходят новые технологии. Сейчас понятно, что в 2023 году произошёл технологический триггер из этого цикла.
Иногда какое-то технологическое событие разом приманивает всех инвесторов. Внезапно появляется совершенно безумное количество денег, а глупые деньги приводят к глупым решениям. Много капитала и новых компаний, поэтому приходится давать инвесторам всё более грандиозные обещания. В конце концов возникает настолько гигантский цикл ажиотажа, что доходит до совершенно безумного пика завышенных ожиданий. Когда выясняется, что оправдать обещания невозможно, деньги так же стремительно начинают уходить с рынка, будем надеяться, без особых потерь для инвесторов. Много компаний гибнет, достигается дно, а затем начинается медленный восход наверх.
Именно такое происходило с середины 1990-х по 2001 год со Всемирной паутиной. Технологическим триггером стало первичное публичное размещение Netscape, IPO одной из первых компаний, продукт которой можно было распространять полностью в цифровом виде. Даже Microsoft на тот момент всё ещё продавала свои программы в коробочных изданиях, а физические носители и традиционные каналы дистрибуции оставались важной частью её бизнеса, и любое обновление с патчами стоило денег, поскольку его нужно было тиражировать на компакт-дисках. Напротив, Netscape могла обходиться без физических релизов: браузер можно было скачать и обновить через Интернет.
Практически нулевые предельные издержки произвели на инвесторов сильное впечатление, и они начали заливать деньгами любого, кто умудрялся выдать себя за интернет-компанию. Ожидания раздулись до такой степени, что рождались проекты уровня Pets.com6. А потом деньги ушли.
При этом Интернет жив по сей день, Всемирная паутина никуда не делась, просто градус безумия спал.
Сейчас идёт очередной цикл. Кстати, случается такое далеко не для каждой технологии. Со времён пузыря доткомов мы пережили уже несколько крупных технологических революций. Можно утверждать, что мобильные технологии всё перевернули и полностью изменили способ взаимодействия с вычислительной техникой. И хотя смартфонов мы продаём куда больше, чем ПК, хотя произошла революция облачных вычислений, ни то, ни другое через цикл хайпа не проходило.
Для цикла хайпа нужны характерные условия. Если инвестор не осознаёт, во что вкладывается, ему можно вешать любую лапшу на уши. Искусственный интеллект на подобную роль подходит просто идеально: ожидания можно раздувать безумные. Заявите вслух: «Через два года исчезнут все профессии». В ответ вам не просто не рассмеются в лицо — наоборот, дадут денег.
Вот мы и в очередном таком цикле хайпа.
Microsoft первой переориентировалась: компания вложила в OpenAI ещё $10 млрд, что довело общую сумму инвестиций до $13 млрд. Первым продуктом с искусственным интеллектом OpenAI стал Bing. Действовать получалось быстро, поскольку в недрах Microsoft уже давно кипела работа над Project Sydney, интерфейсом на естественном языке, призванном принести собственному поисковику актуальность. Насколько я понимаю, Bing улучшили отменно, все шесть пользователей остались довольны.
Впрочем, быстро выяснилось, что хорошим интерфейсом Bing не спасти.
OpenAI продолжала превращать деньги инвесторов во всё более крупные БЯМ. GPT-4 вышла в марте 2023 года, её размер составлял что-то около триллиона параметров. У GPT-2 было 1,5 миллиарда параметров, у GPT-3 — 175 миллиардов. Рост на порядки превратился в примерно шестикратное увеличение. Дальнейшее экстенсивное масштабирование всё сильнее упиралось в контент, поскольку наиболее очевидные источники открытого Веба в датасет предобучения уже включили, и приходилось забираться во всё более сомнительные уголки Интернета, включая разные помойки по типу 4chan.
Сейчас кажется, что это и был пик. GPT-4 впечатляла своими возможностями, пусть как и раньше, её приходилось много настраивать, возиться с её ревизиями, а для её инференса требовались чудовищные вычислительные мощности.
Microsoft не очень понимала, что делать дальше, поэтому просто клепала копайлоты. Наверное, все наслышаны хотя бы про Microsoft 365 Copilot, но лично мне понравился SRE Copilot — он ничего так. Его уже переименовали в SRE Agent, поскольку даже сама Microsoft хочет дистанцироваться от слова Copilot. К тому же продуктов слишком много, многие из них некачественные, и тяжело разобраться, чем пользоваться.
В 2024 году вышла GPT-4o, в которой OpenAI объединила работу с текстом, изображениями и аудио в одной модели. Вскоре наступать на пятки начали китайские лаборатории, и первым звоночком стали модели DeepSeek.
Запад приложил максимальные усилия, чтобы не замечать китайцев. DeepSeek была построена на уже существующих наработках области, её разработчики не действовали с нуля. Интересным в DeepSeek было то, что БЯМ своим примером показала: чтобы выдавать хорошие результаты, необязательно просто наращивать вычислительные затраты вместе с размером модели. Это было серьёзным ударом по упрощённой трактовке законов масштабирования — идее, что достаточно и дальше делать модели всё больше.
Зато было много хайпа, шума и восторженных отзывов про ИИ в разработке программного обеспечения. Надо сказать, в реальности до примерно 2025 года ничего интересного не было.
Я веду подкасты, мне не впервой наблюдать появление новых технологий на рынке. Обсуждать перспективные разработки в эфире мне интересно. Однако после одного-двух выпусков с обещаниями хочется уже увидеть что-то осязаемое. В случае с БЯМ моё терпение вскоре лопнуло. Я просил реальные продукты, иначе говорить я про них не буду. И продуктов довольно долго не было.
По-настоящему серьёзные результаты в программировании начались только в 2025 году. Именно тогда опытные разработчики начали мне рассказывать, что используют БЯМ не просто для подсказок и автодополнения, не просто как продвинутый IntelliSense. В GitHub добавили интегрировали агентов на ИИ. Разработчик назначает issue агенту, а тот работает с кодом и оформляет результат в виде пул-реквеста. После этого с инструментом можно пообщаться прямо внутри пул-реквеста и заставить его что-то дополнительно подкрутить, а затем принять работу.
Я знаю команды, добившиеся с этими инструментами выдающихся результатов. Процесс не всегда простой: часто что-то ломается, многое, как и раньше, приходится собирать вручную, но первые настоящие результаты от ИИ есть.
О наличии проблем с искусственным интеллектом говорит хотя бы само количество продуктов в этой области. Если настолько много разных групп одновременно выпускают софт в одной и той же области, то они явно натолкнулись на пути решения пока нерешённой, но потенциально важной проблемы. Многие из этих продуктов уже сгинули. Мы находимся в лихорадочной фазе развития экосистемы: всего создаётся столько, что и не уследишь.
Иногда продукты исчезали потому, что их компанию-создателя потрошил игрок покрупнее. Нет, покупать — это слишком по-джентльменски. Техногигант просто переманивал к себе всех ключевых сотрудников, включая высшее руководство, фактически оставляя от жертвы пустую оболочку.
В августе 2025 года вышла GPT-5, которая в очередной раз напомнила, что прежних скачков из одного лишь масштабирования уже не выйдет. В целом, релиз разочаровал. Кривая постепенно начала выравниваться: вместо радикальных улучшений получился небольшой эволюционный прирост возможностей.
Среди прочего GPT-5 рекомендовали в литературных задачах, якобы писать она может с литературной глубиной и хорошим ритмом. Оказалось, что с этим модель не справляется. Если дать модели литературно звучащий (с метафорами, характерной лексикой, нуарной атмосферой и так далее), но бессмысленный фрагмент, то она выставит ему баллов больше, чем связному тексту. Наверное, GPT-5 научилась соответствовать критериям автоматических оценщиков, которые вели процесс обучения, хотя это лишь догадки. Как бы то ни было, псевдолитературная бессмыслица продолжала завышенные оценки вплоть до GPT-5.4.
Не будем забывать про другого важного игрока на рынке — Anthropic. Конфликт с минобороны (или как оно теперь называется, министерство войны?) пошёл на пользу с точки зрения имиджа, в бенчмарках Claude впечатляет, в написании кода модели компании популярны. Anthropic — новая звезда отрасли. Кто выживет?
Текущий пузырь принято сравнивать с бумом доткомов и задаваться вопросом: кто здесь Netscape, а кто Google, кто станет глобальным гигантом, а кто потонет? Ведь Netscape сегодня забыта — компанию выкупила AOL, которая затем сама то была частью Time Warner, то Verizon. Google же выстояла крах доткомов, в 2004 году вышла на IPO и постепенно добилась того успеха, который мы можем видеть сегодня.
Не знаю, кому уготован успех. Многие ставят на Anthropic, но всё может измениться хоть за месяц.
Вообще, ИИ-стартапы разбрасываются обещаниями, все только и говорят о быстром движении вперёд. Рекомендую делать как я: в начале каждого месяца записывайте всё, что обещают компании, а через месяц сравнивайте с новыми обещаниями. Удивительно, но из месяца в месяц говорят одно и то же. На деле быстрого движения нет, есть только умение заполнять инфопотоки шумом. Из-за этого создаётся ощущение невероятной скорости событий, времени опомниться не дают.
Ни у одной компании искусственного интеллекта даже близко нет прибыльности; из направления ИИ не извлекают прибыли даже технологические гиганты. В последнем случае есть хотя бы другие источники денег, но для чисто ИИ-компаний до прибыльности очень далеко.
Поскольку прибыльности нет, инвесторов приходится радовать чем-то ещё. В случае агентных моделей говорят о количестве взаимодействий, различных компонентах, которым приходится работать друг с другом, и переосмыслении индустрии программного обеспечения.
Здесь всерьёз нужно задуматься: как вообще будет меняться софт? Имеет ли прежний смысл модель SaaS, если появились инструменты, способные взаимодействовать с различными уровнями данных и извлекать оттуда информацию? Так ли мы привязаны к нашим системам ERP? Насколько сейчас важны CRM, если ИИ может проанализировать мою почту, выделить недавние контакты и предложить, что им написать?
Изменений в этих областях много. По мере продвижения по циклу хайпа (на мой взгляд, мы уже уверенно спускаемся в долину разочарования, пусть до дна ещё далеко) мы всё больше задумываемся о реальной ценности продуктов. Особенно это заметно по ценовой политике, поскольку на одних обещаниях компании сферы ИИ выжить не смогут. Прибыльность придётся показать хотя бы в теории, для чего урежут лимиты бесплатных аккаунтов и поднимут цены на платные услуги.
Здесь неплохо бы задуматься, а нужен ли вообще цикл хайпа, ведь технологии могут появляться и без него. Почему ИИ проходит через такой же цикл ажиотажа, какой сопровождал бум доткомов?
Я пережил обе эпохи и замечаю между ними следующую параллель. Одно из ключевых явлений пузыря доткомов — расширение инфраструктуры Интернета. Об этом говорили мало, но огромные средства шли на новые дата-центры и подводные кабели. На этих тратах многие компании обанкротились или хотя бы потеряли деньги, зато созданная тогда инфраструктура стала одной из предпосылок бурного роста, например, кол-центров в Индии.
Что же дадут нам расходы нынешнего цикла хайпа? Лишь в последние несколько месяцев широкая общественность стала обращать серьёзное внимание на дата-центры.
Основных компаний в этой индустрии три: Amazon, Microsoft и Google, при этом последняя идёт с отставанием от первых двух. Есть игроки третьего эшелона (всякие Meta* и Apple) или тёмные лошадки по типу X.
Ещё до ChatGPT, ещё до пандемии коронавируса строить дата-центры стало сложнее. Местным жителям они не нравятся, муниципалитетам — тоже, рабочих мест ЦОДы не создают, занимают огромное пространство и безбожно шумят, потребляя чудовищное количество электроэнергии и немало воды. Ещё в 2019 году Microsoft в годовом отчёте 10-K предупреждала: мол, спрос на облачные вычисления растёт, но компания не успевает строить дата-центры в необходимых объёмах; всё труднее находить места, где их разрешают возводить.
Муниципалитеты постепенно осознавали, что дата-центры требуют более строгого регулирования. Разумеется, техногиганты такой контроль в гробу видали, поэтому им оставалось искать те места, где местные власти ещё не успели спохватиться.
А потом начался цикл хайпа. Внезапно все побежали возводить ЦОДы. Гиперскейлеры вливали в строительство астрономические суммы. Цифры ошеломляют и уже несколько лет буквально искажают американскую экономику. На самом деле после прихода администрации Трампа к власти экономика США сокращается, но расходы гиперскейлеров в сотни миллиардов долларов закрывают образовавшуются дыру и удерживают фондовый рынок на плаву. Из-за этого сейчас довольно трудно осознать, как остальная экономика США себя чувствует на самом деле.
В 2024 году более половины прироста стоимости индекса S&P 500 пришлось на семь компаний, которую на сленге называют «великолепной семёркой». Сегодня термин расширен до «великолепной десятки». Десять компаний из пятисот дают около 40 % веса крупнейшего индекса мира, который представляет 80 % стоимости фондового рынка США и около 50 % капитализации мирового рынка акций.
И все десять процветают по одной и той же причине. Когда она кончится, удар по всем нам окажется серьёзным.
Другая финансовая проблема — то, что освоила ещё Microsoft при инвестировании в OpenAI. Подобное называют self-dealing, сделками с заинтересованностью или круговым финансированием. Лидер в данном направлении — Nvidia, капитализация которой распухла до $5 трлн. Потратить эти миллиарды некуда (новые фабрики по производству чипов строятся слишком долго, да и Nvidia своих всё равно не имеет), а заставить деньги работать необходимо уже сегодня.
Издание Bloomberg показывало схему кругового финансирования, которую проворачивает Nvidia: она инвестирует $100 млн, $200 млн, да хоть $500 млн в небольшие компании искусственного интеллекта. Задача каждого из этих мелких игроков — взять полученные деньги и купить на них чипы Nvidia. Последней при этом необязательно даже реально поставлять эти чипы, достаточно просто принять заказ.

В системе крутится слишком большой объём денег, уже и невозможно построить всё необходимое. Однако деньги должны продолжать работать, иначе инвесторы расстроятся.
История хранит в графиках, как лопаются пузыри. Избыточные вложения продолжаются, пока не доходят до своего рода пика. Думаю, его мы уже проскочили. Затем наша новая парадигма летит вниз.
Перелом наступил прошлой осенью, когда все производители памяти (Samsung, SK hynix, Micron и так далее) одновременно заявили примерно одно и то же: «Нет, производство кристаллов оперативной памяти удваивать мы не собираемся. Новая фабрика строится от трёх до пяти лет, а уверенности, что вы до этого доживёте, у нас нет».
К тому моменту гиперскейлеры заказывали чипы как не в себя по отработанной схеме. Через посредников скупаются земельные участки. Когда земля получена и появляются разрешения, компании резервируют электрическую мощность из энергосети, закупают компьютеры, заказывают бетон и другие строительные материалы. Ажиотаж царит как при покупке билетов на концерт Тейлор Свифт: покупку приходится вести сразу из десяти браузерных табов в надежде получить хотя бы пару билетов. Гиперскейлеры резервируют всё подряд в надежде, что хоть что-нибудь из запланированного удастся построить.
Сейчас уже приходится ездить по площадкам и проверять, ведётся ли вообще строительство. Иногда да, я его собственными глазами видел, но часто там ничего не происходит. Порой достаточно воткнуть забор, чтобы заявить о переходе проекта в стадию реализации.
После заявлений компаний памяти прогноз перестал сходиться. Намеченный объём вычислительной мощности физически невозможно было обеспечить. Оперативной памяти не хватало, взяться ей было неоткуда. В первом квартале этого года акции всех технологических гигантов заметно подешевели, их продавали в первую очередь институциональные инвесторы — крупные пенсионные фонды и другие подобные организации.
Бегства в панике не наблюдается, просто небольшой отход назад и снижение левериджа. Это первый нисходящий участок нашей кривой. Затем мы доходим до небольшой петли в апреле, когда набирает обороты хайп вокруг дата-центров в космосе. Падение снова замедляется, пока мы пытаемся понять ценность идеи.
Неужели всё действительно так плохо? Давайте покажу ещё один график.
Это график общих коэффициентов P/E или CAPE, отношения цены акций к прибыли компании. Сейчас CAPE очень сильно выбились из нормального диапазона. До пика пузыря доткомов мы пока не дошли, но столь высоко показатели поднимались только тогда. Не знаю, означает ли это, что ситуация повторяется, но сходство определённо есть.
Риск падения реален. Последствия будут. Спорить тут не о чем.
Другое последствие — это вред для людей. Поговорим о ChatGPT-психозе. Кажется, что склонность к нему должна быть меньше у тех, кто работает в сфере технологий. Нужно ли беспокоиться нам?
Как насчёт вот этого человека — с виду типичного технаря? Это Джефф Льюис, основатель и управляющий Bedrock Investments. Фонд Bedrock инвестировал в OpenAI, Vercel и несколько других компаний. Лицо Льюиса вам может быть знакомо по новостным сюжетам: он проводил слишком много времени с чат-ботом и в итоге пережил психотический эпизод. Джефф опубликовал видеоролик, где рассказывал о некоей невидимой, но действующей негосударственной системе, которая выбрала его своей целью.
Льюису оказана помощь, и это хорошо — душевного расстройства не пожелаешь никому. На самом деле проблема крупнее, и приводила к реальным смертям: используя ChatGPT, люди и убивали, и погибали.
В OpenAI об этом осведомлены. Одной из особенностей GPT-5, способствовавших прохладной реакции публики, стало то, что модель заискивала куда меньше прежнего.
Чат-боты спроектированы так, чтобы максимизировать вовлечённость, которая растёт за счёт постоянного положительного подкрепления и лести. «Да, это мысль в правильном направлении» «Вот это хорошая идея». «Потрясающе». «Давайте развивать идею». Знакомо? Цель ИИ — заставить вас продолжать пользоваться инструментом. Вовлечённость пользователей — это метрика, которую компании могут показать инвесторам вместо прибыли (её нет) или какой-то серьёзной пользы для продуктивности (тоже отсутствует).
Очеловечивать чат-бота выгодно, за счёт этого получается повысить значимость продукта. Легко оперировать образом из научной фантастики, называть чат-бота «искусственным интеллектом» и продавать инвесторам историю о новой форме разума. Звучит куда более аппетитно, чем просто текстовая статистическая модель. Ну а последствия можно оставить на потом — пофиксим в следующей версии.
Также меня не особо сильно беспокоят общий искусственный интеллект или так называемый искусственный сверхинтеллект, поскольку они тоже служат в первую очередь затравкой для маркетинга. С другой стороны, в OpenAI прямо внутри компании повторяют «AGI, AGI, AGI», потому что так получается завлекать в штат учёных. При этом реальных доказательств, что БЯМ способны дать нам общий искусственный интеллект, нет; напротив, есть свидетельства об их принципиальных ограничениях.

Мне одной главы хватило на пару часов размышлений, что такое интеллект, разумность и чувствующее сознание и что в принципе может означать наличие настоящего интеллекта.
Вообще, чем больше люди знают про ИИ, тем меньше в него верят и тем меньше ему доверяют. Показательно, не правда ли? Восторга больше у тех, кто меньше всего разбирается в технологии.
Косяки искусственного интеллекта обнаруживаются регулярно. Популярный пример — вопрос с автомойкой, который звучит так: «Мне сегодня пора помыть машину, автомойка от меня в 50 метрах. Мне пойти пешком или поехать?» Поскольку у программы здравого смысла нет, она ответит: «Тут всего 50 метров, прогуляйтесь пешком», упуская то, что для мойки необходима сама машина.
Когда пользователи начинают относиться к программе как к человеку, наступает юридический риск: если бот подталкивает к опасным решениям, рано или поздно кому-то придётся отвечать за последствия. Поэтому в будущем избыточную лесть в поведении языковой модели наверняка будут ограничивать всё сильнее.
В GPT-5 компания OpenAI это поведение действительно поубавила и заодно собралась отключить старые модели. Пользователи отреагировали резко негативно: новая БЯМ недостаточно льстила, старого приятеля терять не хотелось. Альтман сдался, и GPT-4o вернулась в селектор моделей ChatGPT. Реддиторы строчили посты уровня «моя любимка вернулась, как же я скучал, я плачу, и мне всё равно, что вы считаете, будто мне нужна помощь, потому что моя любимка вернулась».
Ужасающе. Чат-бот — это программа, а не товарищ или психотерапевт. Сходите потрогайте траву, в конце концов.
Скорее всего, мы и сами перестанем сходить с ума из-за чат-ботов. Схожим образом мы уже давно не пугаемся дипфейков, хотя когда-то вопрос стоял на повестке дня. Вот один из первых от 2018 года. Это анимация лица Барака Обамы, которого смешно изображает комик Джордан Пил. Этому видеоролику уже восемь лет, а похожие методы синтеза видео с Обамой демонстрировали ещё в 2017 году исследователи Вашингтонского университета. В обоих случаях СМИ реагировали с тревожностью.
Хотя дипфейки сегодня производить намного проще, катастрофы не случилось — люди выработали скептицизм, которого десять лет назад ещё не было. Более того, некоторые развлекаются фальшивыми картинками, как написавший этот твит микроблогер: «Жду не дождусь, когда Дональда Трампа посадят. А пока вот вам несколько картинок, где его арестовывают». Создать подобное сегодня может любой желающий в веб-инструменте чуть ли не прямо в Twitter.
Инструменты мощные, и есть причины задуматься об их регулировании. Плохо это или хорошо, но в вопросах регулирования сейчас лидирует ЕС.
И я призываю всех специалистов в индустрии пользоваться любой возможностью поработать с политиками — позвоните вашему сенатору, предлагайте чиновникам разумные решения и себя в качестве источника компетентной информации. Как ни крути, эксперты здесь — мы; именно нам определять, как будут использовать технологии.
Если этого не сделать, вполне возможно, что технологии будут обращены во зло. Помните алгоритм Greyball у Uber? Компания ворвалась в рынок такси и резко его изменила. Справедливости ради, рынок и сам напрашивался на встряску: во многих городах вход на него был жёстко ограничен до монопольного уровня. Uber резко снизила порог входа, и теперь владелец обычной машины мог зарегистрироваться на платформе и начать возить пассажиров, не становясь водителем традиционного такси.
Как и нынешние лаборатории искусственного интеллекта, Uber залили деньгами. Компания привлекла миллиарды долларов, а к 2016 году её оценивали более чем в $60 млрд. Абсолютно никто не принимает хорошие решения, когда на него давят настолько огромной суммой, и Uber исключением не стала.
Если компания выходила на рынок, где её работу могли запретить или пытались ограничить, она задействовала инструмент под названием Greyball. С его помощью Uber по целому набору признаков вычисляла возможных инспекторов и других чиновников, а затем таким пользователям показывали фиктивные машины или сообщали, что свободных автомобилей нет. При этом для обычных пользователей приложение работало как обычно. Несколько лет Greyball оставался в тайне, помогая Uber мешать проверкам там, где сервис работал без разрешения или вопреки местным ограничениям.
О Greyball стало известно в марте 2017 года, когда четыре нынешних и бывших сотрудника Uber слили документы о системе в газету New York Times. После публикации Uber пообещала больше не использовать Greyball против регуляторов, а вскоре Министерство юстиции США начало уголовное расследование. Разоблачение стало одним из целой череды скандалов вокруг компании, дошло даже до уголовного расследования минюста США, и в июне Трэвис Каланик под давлением крупных инвесторов ушёл с поста гендиректора. Кое-как удалось выправить ситуацию, но ценой невероятных усилий.
Ещё один яркий пример — деятельность Cambridge Analytica во время политической кампании по брекзиту и президентских выборов 2016 года в США. Компания получила данные миллионов пользователей Facebook** и использовала их для построения психологических профилей и таргетирования политической рекламы. На тот момент если реклама в Facebook** была персонально нацелена на конкретного человека, остальные пользователи могли вообще её не увидеть. Поэтому было трудно понять, какие сообщения кому показывают и насколько они отличаются друг от друга. Такая непрозрачность позволяла политическим кампаниям очень точно подбирать аргументы для разных аудиторий, в том числе вводящие в заблуждение.
Вот на что способно программное обеспечение. Риски были всегда, новые технологии их лишь усиливают.
Некоторые возразят: возможно, нам просто стоит отступить. Быть может, не нужен нам этот ИИ, зачем его развивать? Я не согласен, поскольку считаю эту технологию ценной. Просто пользоваться ею нужно правильно.
Давайте я покажу вам вам другую сторону — пример того, какую огромную пользу способен принести искусственный интеллект. Пример настолько наглядный, что разобраться в нём могу даже я, простой смертный. После такого просто списать технологию со счетов уже не получится. Давайте поговорим о DeepMind.
DeepMind — компания из Великобритании. Google выкупила DeepMind в 2014 году, но Хассабис наотрез отказался переезжать в Кремниевую долину. Думаю, в конечном итоге это был плюс, поскольку это позволило не терять не пожелавших переезжать сотрудников. А когда через несколько лет началась пандемия, переезды и вовсе на какое-то время потеряли актуальность.
Если помните, первым заметным достижением DeepMind была DQN — система, научившаяся играть в видеоигры Atari. Она освоила Breakout. Модель научилась прорубать проход вдоль края стены, чтобы загнать мяч за блоки. Но это была лишь компьютерная игра, поэтому обывателя подобным впечатлить было тяжело.
Тогда Хассабис взялся за более сложную задачу — го. Эта настольная игра считалась одной из самых сложных проблем для систем искусственного интеллекта: возможных позиций там невероятно много, а лучшие программы годами не выходили выше уровня любителя. AlphaGo сначала обучили на тысячах партий сильных игроков, а затем она играла сама против себя. В 2015 году система впервые обыграла профессионала, а в 2016 победила в матче против лучшего из людей. Момент был важный, пусть речь шла всего лишь о игре.
На этом Хассабис не угомонился. Следующим шагом стала AlphaGo Zero. В отличие от AlphaGo, она не училась на человеческих партиях: системе дали только правила го, после чего она начала играть сама с собой и учиться на результатах этих партий. Уже через три дня AlphaGo Zero разгромила прежнюю AlphaGo, победившую Ли Седоля, со счётом 100:0. Этот подход обобщили в AlphaZero, которая таким же образом училась играть уже не только в го, но и в шахматы и сёги.
После игр Хассабис сфокусировался на фолдинге белков. Если сфера вашей работы связана с биологией, то вы знаете, что белки строятся из 20 стандартных аминокислот, соединяющихся в длинные цепочки, которые затем скручиваются и сворачиваются, образуя сложную трёхмерную структуру. От этой структуры во многом зависит то, как белок работает. Предсказать её по одной лишь последовательности аминокислот чрезвычайно трудно.
В 1957 году Джон Кендрю стал первым учёным, которому удалось определить трёхмерную структуру белка — миоглобина. На эту работу ушло больше десяти лет, а в 1962 году Кендрю вместе с Максом Перуцем получил за исследования структуры белков Нобелевскую премию по химии. Настолько высокой когда-то была научная важность определения структуры одного-единственного белка.
За следующие десятилетия тысячи исследователей с помощью рентгеновской кристаллографии, криоэлектронной микроскопии и других экспериментальных методов определили структуры сотен тысяч биомолекул. Это огромный объём человеческого труда. И результаты нужны не ради красивых картинок: зная структуру белка, можно лучше понять, что он делает, как взаимодействует с другими молекулами и как на него можно воздействовать лекарством. Такие знания способны в конечном счёте спасать жизни.
Проблема в том, что число возможных пространственных конфигураций белковой цепочки астрономически велико. Даже для белка всего из 100 аминокислот простейшая оценка даёт порядка 
возможных конфигураций. Просто перебрать все варианты и выбрать правильный невозможно.
Мы даже превратили эту проблему в международное соревнование. С 1994 года проводится конкурс CASP: участникам дают аминокислотные последовательности белков, структуры которых им неизвестны, и предлагают предсказать, как эти белки устроены. Затем прогнозы сравнивают с экспериментальными данными. За десятилетия методы постепенно улучшались, но задача оставалась чрезвычайно трудной. Создавать программное обеспечение, которое действительно хорошо её решает, было невероятно сложно.
В 2008 году вышла игра для людей — Foldit. Игроки вручную меняли трёхмерную форму белков, а система на основе Rosetta, оценивала насколько удачной получалась структура. В конце 2010 года им предложили задачу, с которой долго не могли справиться кристаллографы: уточнить структуру ретровирусной протеазы M-PMV. Модели, полученные игроками, оказались достаточно точными, чтобы с их помощью определить кристаллическую структуру белка. Для компьютерной игры это было впечатляющее научное достижение.
Хассабис и его команда взялись за фолдинг белков с помощью машинного обучения. Они проработали над задачей 4 года, и в 2018 году AlphaFold впервые победила на соревновании CASP, а в 2020 у AlphaFold2 получилось достичь точности предсказания, сопоставимой с экспериментальными методами.
В 2021 году DeepMind открыла базу AlphaFold, а в 2022 расширила её до более чем 200 миллионов предсказанных структур — почти всех каталогизированных белков, известных науке. Это радикально изменило работу в структурной биологии и ускорило множество биомедицинских исследований. Например, AlphaFold помог исследователям разобраться со структурой белка Pfs48/45 и продвинуть разработку экспериментальной вакцины от малярии. Систему также применяют при изучении механизмов устойчивости к антибиотикам. Возможно, что нам потребуются десятилетия, чтобы полностью оценить, что дала науке эта база данных. И это всё за счёт машинного обучения.
Как распорядиться этими инструментами — зависит от нас. Вариантов дальнейшего развития множество. Но нам сто́ит вернуться к основам и сосредоточиться на том, что действительно важно.
Наша индустрия переживает такие потрясения не впервые. Просто нынешняя революция вдобавок обёрнута в цикл хайпа, а потому переживать её сложнее. Вернитесь к основам — к тому, что для вас действительно важно. Наша работа никогда не заключалась в написании кода. Наша работа заключалась в решении человеческих проблем.
Проблему фолдинга белков не удавалось решить привычными методами, поэтому они пошли другим путём и построили модель, которая научилась предсказывать структуру белков. Возможно, похожий подход сработает и для вашей задачи, хотя этого я знать не могу. Но я точно знаю другое: каждый раз, когда нашу индустрию так встряхивает, мы в итоге возвращаемся к тому, что действительно важно. Мы принимаем хорошие решения, добиваемся отличных результатов и помогаем людям.
Да, сейчас безумное время. Но оно пройдёт и мы вернёмся к работе, которая тоже будет выглядеть иначе. И это нормально. Мы всё равно будем менять мир к лучшему.
