Когда в начале этого месяца Джон Джампер получил звонок от Королевской шведской академии наук с известием о присуждении ему Нобелевской премии, он едва не пропустил его. Джампер: Я думаю, что сейчас происходит как минимум два события одновременно. Но это во многом отражает то, что происходило в научном сообществе с AlphaFold. Есть момент с чат-ботами, когда они могут делать удивительные вещи — писать поэзию, суммировать электронные письма — они способны выполнять множество задач, которые выполняют люди, но мы не имели представления, как запрограммировать компьютеры для этого.

В науке, я думаю, происходит что-то иное. Это действительно момент, когда возникают проблемы, которые мы не могли решить, и которые не смог бы решить ни один человек. Ньева: Вы выпустили AlphaFold 3 в марте, интегрировав диффузионную модель в технологию. Как вы планируете внедрять другие типы базовых моделей по мере дальнейшего развития AlphaFold?

Джампер: В целом, уроки, полученные в процессе обучения этих моделей, их управления и масштабирования, будут иметь значение для науки. Однако наука имеет свои особенности. И перед каждым релизом мы проводим оценку этих аспектов, что является частью нашей работы на протяжении многих лет.

Ниева: В прошлом году DeepMind объединилась с Google Brain. Изменило ли это каким-либо образом ваш подход к исследованиям или разработке продуктов?

Джампер: Я могу говорить только от имени научной команды. Конечно, есть множество аспектов, связанных с Gemini и тем, как они работают вместе. Ньева: Вы упомянули о двух текущих направлениях в области искусственного интеллекта — чатботах и науке. Gemini и ChatGPT получают много внимания, потому что они являются потребительскими продуктами и доступны для обычных людей. Но как человек, работающий в науке, вы заметили усталость от чатботов?

Джампер: Я так не думаю, по крайней мере, в науке. Во-первых, стоит отметить, что подавляющее большинство GDM не связано с наукой. Большая часть работает над другими задачами, и значительная часть — над чатботами. Кроме того, в науке есть проекты, связанные с LLM (большими языковыми моделями). Я вижу в этом огромную возможность.
