BKCM Founder: CBOE Exit Shows Bitcoin Bear Market is ‘Exhausted’Speaking on Tuesday’s edition of CNBC Fast Money, the BKCM Digital Asset Fund founder and CEO stated that he sees improvement in bitcoin address growth and market sentiment since December 2018 as evidence that the retail end of the bear market is “exhausted.” CCN recently reported that CBOE ditched bitcoin futures, announcing earlier in March that it decided to stop listing new XBT futures contracts, at least for now. Following the announcement, prominent trader Mark Dow stated that abysmal liquidity figures make it difficult to believe that institutional investment is actually going into bitcoinJoin CCN for $9.99 per month and get an ad-free version of CCN including discounts for future events and services. In his words: “I think we could look back on this and say that was the bottom…There’s a couple of things that have gone on since the low in December. We’ve seen the underlying fundamentals improve…I think retail is exhausted. You’re starting to see sellers being exhausted and institutions come in. Fidelity is a catalyst coming up in Q2. I think with all those things combined, we might look back and say ‘You know what, in the $3000’s is a great place to buy bitcoin.’”Wall Street has not warmed to crypto as quickly as most bulls expected. | Source: ShutterstockWhile this might sound plausible on paper, there is one tiny problem with such a hypothesis – institutional investment did not take off as expected when the CBOE launched bitcoin futures contracts in December 2017. In fact, Mark Dow’s withering assessment of bitcoin liquidity is much closer to the mark, which raises the question of what happened to the expected entry rush and what comes next for bitcoin. Challenged by the host to answer this question, Kelly stated that while institutional entry has been “much slower than we all expected,” that on its own does not tell the entire story. For instance, he said, institutions now have other avenues for bitcoin investment open to them such as custody which enables them to purchase and hold bitcoin positions directly. According to him, the supporting infrastructure on both the lending and the shorting side of bitcoin have become more “robust,” which significantly lessens the need for XBT futures to begin with. jQuery(document).ready(function(){ setTimeout(function(){ window.newVuukleWidgets({ elementsIndex: 170843, articleId: 170843, img: "https://www.ccn.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/brian-kelly-cnbc-bitcoin-150x150.jpg", title: "CBOE Trashing Bitcoin Futures Signals Crypto Market Bottom: Brian Kelly", tags: "Bitcoin, Brian Kelly, cboe", url: "https://www.ccn.com/cboe-trashing-bitcoin-futures-signals-crypto-market-bottom-brian-kelly", }); }, 2000); });document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", function(event) { var commentBoxDiv2 = document.getElementById("vuukle-comments"); var commentBoxDivAfter2 = document.getElementsByClassName("postauthor")[0]; var cloneCommentBoxDiv2 = commentBoxDiv2.cloneNode(true);commentBoxDiv2.parentNode.removeChild(commentBoxDiv2); commentBoxDivAfter2.parentNode.insertBefore(cloneCommentBoxDiv2, commentBoxDivAfter2.nextSibling); });#vuukle-comments{position:relative!important} var VUUKLE_CONFIG = { apiKey: "c0756128-a51e-44af-9c60-d971619bf980", articleId: "170843", tags: "Bitcoin, Brian Kelly, cboe", author: "David Hundeyin", endlessMode: true, // LangwordpressSync: true, eventHandler: function (e) { console.log(e); if (e.eventType == 'wpSync') { jQuery.ajax({ type: 'POST', data: { "action": "save_comment_to_db", "comment_ID":e.comment_ID, "comment_post_ID": e.comment_post_ID, "comment_author": e.comment_author, "comment_author_email": e.comment_author_email, "comment_author_url": e.comment_author_url, "comment_content": e.comment_content, "comment_type": e.comment_type, "comment_parent_ID": e.comment_parent, "user_id": e.user_id, "comment_author_IP": e.comment_author_IP, "comment_agent": e.comment_agent, "comment_approved": e.comment_approved, "comment_date": e.comment_date, "comment_date_gmt": e.comment_date_gmt, "comment_karma": e.comment_karma, "_wpnonce": "877c44538e" // WPCS: XSS ok }, url: "/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php", beforeSend: function () {}, success: function (data) { } }); } }, // Articles - recommendations in emotes and comments widget recommendationsWideImages: false, globalRecommendations: true, // Colors darkMode: false, // By Widget theme: {color: "108ee9"}, comments: { vuukleAuth: true, disqusAuth: true, hideRecommendedArticles: false, hideCommentInputBox: false, enabled: true, commentingClosed: false, maxChars: '3000', countToLoad: '5', toxicityLimit: '80', spamLimit: '90', sorting: 'latest', transliteration:{ language: 'en', enabledByDefault: false, }, customText: { recommendedStories: 'TALK OF THE TOWN', }, }, emotes: { enabled: true, hideRecommendedArticles: false, size: '70', // icons size firstImg: '', firstName: 'Yeah!', secondImg: '', secondName: 'Careface', thirdImg: '', thirdName: 'hmm..', fourthImg: '', fourthName: 'HAHA', fifthImg: '', fifthName:'PISSED', sixthImg: '', sixthName: 'cry baby', disable: [], customText: {}, }, powerbar: { enabled: false, defaultEmote: 1, customText: {}, items: [ 'twitter', 'facebook', 'linkedin', 'messenger', 'whatsapp', 'reddit', 'messenger', 'pinterest', 'flipboard', 'email', ], customUrls: { twitter: `http://twitter.com/share?text=CBOE Trashing Bitcoin Futures Signals Crypto Market Bottom: Brian Kelly&url=https://www.ccn.com/cboe-trashing-bitcoin-futures-signals-crypto-market-bottom-brian-kelly&via=cryptocoinsnews`, }, },}; (function () { var d = document, s = d.createElement('script'); s.async = true; s.src = 'https://cdn.vuukle.com/platform.js'; (d.head || d.body).appendChild(s); })(); googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1524167859587-2'); });(function() { var referer="";try{if(referer=document.referrer,"undefined"==typeof referer||""==referer)throw"undefined"}catch(exception){referer=document.location.href,(""==referer||"undefined"==typeof referer)&&(referer=document.URL)}referer=referer.substr(0,700); var rcds = document.getElementById("rcjsload_f09f3b"); var rcel = document.createElement("script"); rcel.id = 'rc_' + Math.floor(Math.random() * 1000); rcel.type = 'text/javascript'; rcel.src = "https://trends.revcontent.com/serve.js.php?w=98632&t="+rcel.id+"&c="+(new Date()).getTime()+"&width="+(window.outerWidth || document.documentElement.clientWidth)+"&referer="+encodeURIComponent(referer); rcel.async = true; rcds.appendChild(rcel); })();
